Road Trip

How to choose dog road-trip gear

Build a road-trip kit around three jobs: keeping your dog controlled in the car, offering water at planned stops, and creating a familiar place to rest. Test each item close to home before relying on it for a long drive.

Plan the in-car setup

Use a rear-seat restraint that fits both your dog’s harness and your vehicle. My FurMigo’s adjustable car tether connects a harness to a compatible seat-belt receiver and includes an elastic section, adjustable strap, and swivel clip. Adjust it so your dog can sit or lie down without reaching the driver. It is not presented as crash-tested, so review the product limits and local travel rules rather than treating the name as a safety certification.

Make water easy to offer

Choose a container you can reach without unloading the car. The 2-in-1 travel bottle combines a 400 ml water chamber, 200 ml food cup, built-in drinking trough, twist control, silicone seal, and carry strap. That capacity may work for a stop but may not cover a full day; bring additional clean water for the distance, weather, delays, and your dog’s needs. Lock the control before packing it and test for leaks at home.

Pack for stops, not just miles

Keep waste bags, a leash, identification, familiar food, medication, and a towel within reach. A foldable water-repellent mat can define a resting spot at a hotel, campsite, or stop; choose S or M from the listed unfolded dimensions and your dog’s body length. Schedule regular breaks, never leave a dog in a parked vehicle, and shorten the plan if your dog cannot settle comfortably.
